Waste & Recycling – Thursday, June 11, 8pm to 9pm
Confused about recycling in the District? Heard about composting but not sure what it's all about? Come find out the many ways you can reduce waste in your home! This Eco-Coach workshop will cover:
- Reducing the amount of waste that enters your home
- Recycling basics—what to recycle and what not to recycle; what happens to recycling in the District
- Electronics and hazardous waste recycling
- Composting—in a backyard or an apartment
- Suggested products and services to help you decrease waste
- Additional resources for you to learn more!
Composting Made Easy – Saturday, June 13th, 10am to 11am
Composting is the decomposition of organic materials to make an earthy,
dark, crumbly substance that is excellent nutrition for your houseplants or
enriching your garden. It is the best way to recycle your yard and kitchen
wastes, and is a critical step in reducing the volume of garbage needlessly
sent to landfills for disposal. Soil and healthy plants depend on compost.

Lotions and Potions – Tuesday, June 23th, 7pm to 8pm – $12 MATERIAL FEE
Back by popular demand! Learn how to make luxury bath products in your home with Kristina Libby, owner of the DC-based luxury bath and body company For the Love of… The class will include a short talk on the benefits of organic skin care and why she went to Peru to find ancient skin care cures. The rest of the class will be dedicated to creating your own signature scented body scrub and bath salts, which you will be able to take home.
This workshop costs $12, payable at the beginning of class. 50% of the cost of the class will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Prepay for the class here. >>
Greening Your Apartment or Condo – Wednesday, June 24th, 8pm to 9pm
Apartment owners and renters face different challenges and constraints than home owners. Fortunately, there are many ways to reduce your utility bills and make your apartment healthier and more comfortable for you and your family. The best part is that many of these steps also lead to reductions in your environmental impact. Elena Lomicky from ecobeco will provide advice you can use in your own apartment, and give you tips on how to approach your Condo Management Association or Property Management Office to reduce your common area’s cost and environmental impact.
Water Conservation – Thursday, June 25, 8pm to 9pm
Fresh water is key to our survival, yet many times we waste it without realizing it. This impacts the environment as well as our wallets! Come find out ways you can stop wasting fresh water. This Eco-Coach workshop will provide you with:
- Information on the main water consuming appliances and activities in the home
- Actions you can take to decrease your water consumption (and by definition, your water bill!)
- Products and services that can help you conserve water
- Resources that will provide you with more information

Instructor Bios
Anca Novacovici is the founder and president of Eco-Coach, Inc., an environmental sustainability consultancy that provides services and tools to help businesses and individuals decrease their environmental footprint. She has led "greening" workshops, conducted green business audits, and helped with implementing more environmentally-friendly processes for clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to smaller businesses and individuals. Anca is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professional and is on the Board of the Green Building Institute.
Reuven Walder is the founder and vice-president of In-Home Services and an energy auditor for ecobeco. He is a Certified Building Analyst through the Building Performance Institute and a member of the Maryland Home Performance with Energy Star Program. He has a broad base of knowledge around building science, energy efficiency and environmentally friendly products. A committed conservationist, Walder has devoted his career to developing an array of projects aimed to reduce resource consumption and promote sustainability. He is an experienced environmental educator utilizing his broad base of scientific and mechanical systems knowledge to educate and empower people around him to wisely use and protect our resources whether on a nature tour or in their home.
For the Love of… founder Kristina Libby strives to embrace the joys of feeling beautiful. At age 25, Libby left her job in Corporate America to pursue her dream of providing a product that would touch other women’s lives, even in a small way. Calling upon past experiences as both a florist and model, Libby designed the For the Love of… line with the idea that while beauty may come in all shapes and sizes, every woman should have a signature secret that makes them feel beautiful.
